On the search for the best tacos in Connecticut brings us to Agave Grill in Hartford.

I’ve got to be honest. When I heard that Agave supposedly has some of the best tacos in CT, I was skeptical.
And then I tasted them.
and the majority of their tacos are garbage.
The ground beef tacos and choriao tacos are both just bad.
Somehow oily and dry at the same time.
The chicken tacos are decent, but nothing that would make you think these are really good.
But on their menu they also have Agave Street Tacos.
More about those later.

Mango Habanero Wings
There is a nice heat to these on the tip and front of your tongue.
The chicekn is okay.
Not too meaty, not too stringy.
They are a bit overcooked, so a little tough.
The sauce is good but the chicken is okay.

Calamari
Honestly?
Kind of plain.
The flavor just isn’t there.
Dipped in the chipotle crema is nice and there are plenty of fried jalapenos.
But catch one without salt?
Meh.
Mostly this tastes like deep fry.

Street Tacos
Now I’m not sure what street they think serves bbq pork with lots of cheese and no cilantro in sight.
But.
These are really good.
Get out the idea you are getting some sort of authentic Mexican street food.
And just lean in.
The tacos are extremely meaty and thick.
The bbq sauce is like classic bbq sauce (like from the southern US) and there may be a bit too much of it.
It’s a double shell (boo) but they are stuck together with lots of cheese (yay), so that’s nice.
The ends of the tacos can get a bit dry and chewy without the cheese, but otherwise these are very good.
