On the search for the best hot chocolate in Connecticut brings us to Rebel Dog Coffe Co. in Plainville (and Farmington).
I had planned on reviewing this place for their coffee, which is solid, but since today (Jan 31) is National Hot Chocolate Day, and they also have a solid hot chocolate, I thoughts I’d do both.
The espresso (in cortado form) has a nice chocolately flavor to it. A perfect warmup to their hot chocolate.
The espresso, however, has a little bit of sourness to it on the back end.
This hint of sourness is subtle, but does not play off milk well, so the espresso might be best had without (e.g. straight up, macchiato, etc.).
The Rating, Espresso
Solid overall, but better without milk.
The hot chocolate here is about as good as the espresso is.
It is very sweet, but not in a sugary chocolate way.
The sweetness comes from a heavy cocoa butter flavor.
The only downside is that i dries the mouth out a bit.
The Rating, Hot Chocolate
Solid all around. Could be thicker and more chocolate/less cocoa butter, but solid.
