On the search for the best pizza in Connecticut brings us to Colony Grill in Stamford.

This pizza place is a staple of working-class Stamford.
The pizza’s are bar-style pizza.
A bar-style pizza has a chewy thin crust with toppings that go all the way to the edge so there is no crust at the edge.
Here, Colony grill makes a hot oil by frying serrano peppers in oil.
You can either get the oil as a topping, or the fried serrano peppers.
We’ve tried both, but here will highlight the peppers (called stingers).
But I’d recommend favoring the hot oil.
Pizza with Pepperoni and Stingers
If you are not used to bar-style pizza the crust catches you off guard.
You expect something so thin to be crispy, but it is instead soft, almost mushy.
The pepperoni is good and the cheese gets crisped up all the way out at the edges.
The stingers are a medium heat without being overwhelming.
Most of the heat gets leeched out into the hot oil, so the stingers are toned down.
Honestly, you don’t expect this pizza to be as good as it is, but then all of a sudden you find you’ve devoured nearly the whole thing in one sitting.
