On the search for the best wings in Connecticut brings us to The Rabbit Hole Tavern in Old Saybrook.

Something weird about this place is that everywhere you see references to it it is called the Rabbit Hole Tavern…but when you go inside they tell you their food is made next door.
So it’s technically Jack Rabbits, not the Rabbit Hole. Not a big deal.
The wings here come in many flavors, but we are going for the buffalo as I haven’t seen anything about best flavors.
Their buffalo comes in levels from G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17, X, XX, and XXX.
Since we don’t want to get the hottest level, we went with XX.
One thing about buffalo wings is that they almost always use Franks as a base.
I’m not complaining, I love Franks. It is a solid standard use hot sauce.
But when you start eating lots of different wings, it all starts to feel a bit familiar.
Like “oh, here’s franks with slightly different seasonings in the background”.
Not here.
The sauce here is sweeter, and not vinegary (like Franks).
The heat tastes a bit like habanero, with a sharp heat in the back of the throat.
I ordered the bone-in wings but they gave me the boneless,
So I’ll have to go back anyway. The boneless are more like fat nuggets, not the long tenders. This means there is more breading per wing (and less meat) than your standard tenders.
Still good, but could use more sauce to make up for that extra breading.

The Rating
With the habanero-like flavor and sweetness with a nice heat, these wings are excellent.
