On the search for the best breakfast sandwich in Connecticut brings us to Harvest Cafe & Bakery in Simsbury.

This bakery is home to some wildly inconsistent breakfast sandwiches.

We will see two options, one, a sad version, and a second MUCH better version.

As a side note, this is why you don’t review places but review foods. Places can vary wildly in their foods.

Exhibit A) Bacon Egg and Cheese on homemade toasted bread.

The bread is incredibly dry. Not just because it is partially burned, but the non-burned parts are dry too.

The egg is only one single egg, nothing more. Barely any seasoning.

The bacon is truly pathetic. It’s flavorless.

The bacon actually makes the whole sandwich worse.

The Rating, Bacon Egg & Cheese on Homemade Toasted Bread:

4.5/10

Now let us consider

Exhibit B) Sausage Egg and Cheese on a Croissant.

The egg is cooked perfectly.

I asked for over easy. I got a perfect over easy egg.

The sausage is excellent. It has this Jimmy Dean’s like taste to it. That is a very good thing.

Finally, the croissant is very buttery and very flaky.

Overall, this is the combination to get.

The rating, Sausage Egg & Cheese on a Croissant:

8/10

The recommendation:

Whatever your preferences are for your breakfast sandwiches, ask for the egg to be exactly the way you want it cooked, order a second egg if you want some more substance, and stay away from the bacon and homemade toasted bread in favor of the croissant. You’ll be thankful you did.
