On the search for the best breakfast sandwich in Connecticut brings us to The Sloppy Waffle in Newington.

A breakfast sandwich with a waffle for bread seems both very kitschy as well as a bit too much.
I mean, what are you supposed to do with the syrup?
Ignore it?
Get it all over your hands?
Eat a breakfast sandwich with a knife and fork?
But if you are going to get wet, might as well go swimming.
So we got breakfast sandwich on waffles with sausage on it.
The eggs here are cooked perfectly.
The sausage is standard breakfast sausage. So wonderful if you like that sort of thing.
The waffle itself is actually quite sweet.
Like a standard Belgian waffle in spirit.
I say in spirit because waffles in Belgium tend to have these little pockets of sugar, instead of being sweet uniformly throughout.
But these sweet waffles pair well with the standard American cheese (which is sweeter).
Overall, you don’t have to worry about the syrup dilemma, as the sandwich is good on its own.
No syrup needed.
No hot sauce needed.
And it’s actually very good.
A fun version of what you want in a breakfast sandwich.
Kitsch and all.
