On the search for the best Nashville hot chicken sandwich in Connecticut brings us to Fowl Play in Hartford.

Inside the Parkville market (THE definition of gentrification), lies Fowl Play, a restaurant specializing in hot chicken.
It comes in 5 levels of heat, and I got the 2nd hottest (hot), because you don’t get the hottest.
The Mac Daddy has mac and cheese on top, so why not?
First thing, the chicken meat is very large and very juicy.
The bun as well, is excellent.
Eggy and flaky and standing up to the condiments.
The breading, however, is where the sandwich falls apart (figureatively and literally).
The breading/spice combo is gritty, like it has too many spices on it.
This could be a side effect of getting it hot, maybe milder versions are less gritty.
The breading also slides off the meat as you eat it.
The biggest disappointment is the mac and cheese, which isn’t bad its just completely neutral.
Overall, competition with Birdcode’s hot chicken sandwich (8/10) would be great.
Because competition is great for customers.
The sandwich here is good, don’t get me wrong.
There is an odd, almost curry taste to it, which might be a byproduct of the heat rating, or maybe how the sandwich tastes.
Only trying other versions here will tell how Fowl Play stacks up, and if they can unseat Birdcode’s Nashville hot chicken sandwich.
