I can’t for the life of me figure out why I came to Spiga, in New Canaan, so intent on getting the meatballs.

I didn’t find myself at Spiga.
I went there.
Intent on meatballs.
Maybe I saw someone else post or review Spiga and rave about the meatballs.
Maybe I was trying to find something to review for national meatball day.
Who knows, but the meatballs here are a mystery.
Why a mystery?
First, the meatballs themselves are wonderful.
They are super juicy and flavorful. A nice fresh parsley helps round out the meat.
The marinara sauce they are in?
Garbage.
I’ll say it again.
The marinara sauce is garbage.
I kept wanting it to be better.
It’s basically tomato paste thinned down to an almost homemade ketchup.
This bodes poorly for a restaurant that seems to have lots of dishes using this sauce.
